For those going on IUI and IVF treatments. How many cycles you think are enough?

Can you answer Chula’s question about Infertility?:
We just learned that IUI or IVF might be the only option (2 years ttc w/ low sperm count). I heard stories about miscarrying the baby or not any success with these treatments. How many cycles do you think should be enough before you decide to give up. Would you recommend me to quit my job when I start the procedure. I was planning on quitting once I got pregnant any way. I think going through the infertility treatments is going to be too streesful. Any advices from those of you with similar experiences. We hane not started any treatments yet, and I am not sure if we can do it. Financially and emotionally

I would not recommend quitting your job because you really have no idea how long it will take.
Before I had my son I had 4 failed clomid cycles(one with IUI), 2 failed injectible cycles(with IUI), 2 failed ivf cycles, 2 failed fets, and 1 cancelled fet.
I’m now trying for my second child. I had 1failed fet and 1 canceled fet so far. My mother cautioned me about taking a 4 month course because I was trying. Here I am the course is almost through and I’m not pregnant yet. I’m starting a fresh ivf cycle soon. I’m still pursuing job opportunities even though it will be crazy while cycling and crazy when in early pregnancy, but I can’t just sit around waiting when I really don’t know what will be.
IUI odds are about 20% per cycle and ivf is about 40%.
Infertility Feedback: i have had 3 iui’s with no luck…………if i could go back i would just go straight in and do the ivf…………….i was taking clomid but now stopped and now saving money to go for our first ivf treatment which will be early next year …and theres nothing wrong with me and hubby has normal sperm count ……….so i will be having a few months medication free and hopefully it will happen for me b4 we try ivf …………..i would sudgest you book in to have a chat with your specailist about ivf ………..even though iui does work for some but not everyone its the same with ivf but ivf has a better percentage rate of falling pregnent
Infertility Feedback: Most doctors do not recommend any more than three IUI cycles. Basically, for most people who will get pregnant by IUI, it will happen within three months.
IVF is really based more on how you respond to the drugs and how much time and effort you are willing to put into it. We did a shared risk plan that included 4 fresh IVFs and any resulting FETs, so we were willing to try as many times as the package allowed. It was really hard financially and mentally, but we were willing to do what we had to to try to achieve our dream. But it really depends on how you feel. Many women play it by ear and do more cycles as they feel ready. You’ll be surprised what you can handle once you get the ball rolling, and don’t forget, many women have great luck with the first IUI or IVF.
You may want to quit your job before you start. It can be kind of hard to get to schedule the appointments if your boss isn’t flexible. But it is also good to have something else to focus on while you are TTC. I worked when I did my 3 IUIs and my first IVF, and it was almost a relief to go to work and forget about the 2 week wait for a while. I did get ovarian hyperstimulation during the IVF and had to miss a few days because my abdomen was so swelled up.
Also, if it does take a few years to get pregnant (hopefully it won’t), you may feel kind of bored during the time while you are waiting to get PG. I quit after my last IVF and then waited a year to try again. I felt like my life was sort of frozen in time, being a stay at home mom with no baby! But if you have a lot of hobbies and things to do, you may not feel the same way.
I hope whatever you try works quickly so you don’t have to worry about any of this. Good luck!
Infertility Feedback: I am going through IVF at the moment an no luck. In relation to how many cycles is enough it is up to you guys, I have given it about a year in my own mind but that may change in the future, good luck and enjoy each other and love each other as this will get you through
Infertility Feedback: I have been through many IUI’s and one IVF and worked during all of them. I had a full-time job and I don’t feel it affected me. I also kept working to keep my medical benefits and a paycheck to afford the treatment that wasn’t covered by insurance. Working probably kept my mind busy so I wouldn’t think about what I was going through. How many times you do IUI or IVF is a personal and financial decison. I was very lucky and got pregnant after my first IVF procedure. I decided I wanted to work up until my last 2 weeks before my due date. Agaain, it is a privaye and personal decision you need to make. There is no right or wrong choice. Good luck.
